The Guys

Giles: Smart, funny, loving, supportive, handsome... what a guy! He caught my eye in the very first episode, but two things he did completely won me over. First was when he decided to face The Master in Buffy's place, knowing he would most likely be killed. Second was when we got to meet Ripper in "Halloween". Since then, I've become a firm believer that there's no such thing as too much Giles.

Oz: When being a werewolf is not a guy's most memorable feature, you know you're looking at a very unique individual. Cool in any crisis, Oz was always ready with a dry quip, but his casual air masked a guy whose feelings ran deep. Much as I hated the way he left, his sardonic wit, enigmatic charm, and quiet passion were sorely missed.

Spike: On one hand, I'm amazed by the depth of feeling and tenderness that Spike is capable of, but I long for the badass he used to be. 'Disappointed' doesn't begin to describe my feelings about the way he changed during the B/S relationship, but the cocky, swaggering Big Bad Spike will always be a favourite.

The Gals

Tara: She always had an air of mystery that remained long after we found out her "secrets". Like Spike, she was often the source of some surprising truths, not to mention a sly sense of humour. She was also a wonderful friend and ally. And the more her confidence grew, the more impressed I was by this unique and beautiful young woman.

Kendra: This shy fighter died much too soon, despite being everything the Council could want. I suspect a little more time around the Scoobies would have seen her open up a lot more, and I'm sad we didn't get to see her come out of her shell. Quiet as she was, though, her wry humour was evident, as were her loyalty and sense of duty.

Joyce: Being the Slayer's mom? In some ways, that had to be an even harder gig than Buffy's. Joyce was compassionate, understanding (once she finally, um, understood), as fierce as a lioness, and utterly devoted to her daughter. Make that daughters. Her resilience and heart in the face of some seriously startling truths made her one of my favourites, and she is sorely missed. And who else but Joyce would sit and drink hot chocolate with a vampire? One she brained with an axe, no less (^_^)

And can I just thank Joss for killing all my favourite female characters? Sheesh!
