Cordelia & Wesley

One of the briefest, most amusing relationships in the series. When Wesley arrived to take over as Buffy's new Watcher, he was instantly detested by all - except for Cordelia Chase. She was wowed by his accent and charm, and he thought she was simply stunning. He also assumed, at first, that she was a teacher, but the news that she was a student didn't put a stop to their flirtation. Cordelia decided to ask him on a date. After all, she reasoned, she had an English paper to do, and who better to help her than someone English? She informed him that she studied best over a romantic dinner and instructed him to meet her in the Library that evening. Cordelia arrived dressed to the nines. She saw Willow - or someone she thought was Willow - locked in the book cage. But it was actually Willow's vampire doppelganger from an alternate reality. After lecturing Vampire Willow about the ethics of stealing other girls' boyfriends, Cordelia let her out of the cage. The vampire attacked, and Cordelia ran.

Hearing a scream, Wesley charged to Cordelia's rescue. He charged full of nerves and panic, but he still charged. He thrust a cross in the vampire's face, and she turned and left. Cordelia spared a moment to ponder the idea that Willow was dead but quickly abandoned her concern in favour of their dinner date.

Soon after came the Prom. Cordelia and Wesley both looked incredible in their formal wear. Wesley tried to ask Giles if he thought it would be improper for him to ask Cordelia to dance, but Giles assured him that Cordelia was of age - and that Wesley had the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone - so he should just shut up and carpe the diem already.

Just before graduation, Wesley told Cordelia he was leaving. After all, both his Slayers had gone rogue, and after the ascension battle, there wouldn't be anything keeping him in Sunnydale. Of course, if he had a reason to stay, some sign that he was wanted... he and Cordelia finally kissed, and it was one of the worst liplocks in the history of television. So much for that. Cordelia wished him a safe trip, and he said he'd write.

Months later, the two of them met in LA. Cordelia kissed him in an effort to rid herself of the visions she'd been passed, and Wesley breathlessly replied that the kiss had gone vastly better than their previous effort. Frustrated that she still had the visions, Cordelia exclaimed that she didn't feel anything, and Wesley hastened to agree that he hadn't either. Wesley stayed on with Angel Investigations, and he and Cordelia became good friends.
