Detective Kate Lockley met Angel while they were both on the trail of a serial killer. She briefly thought he might actually *be* that killer, but after they worked together to solve the case (Angel wisely keeping the whole 'parasite burrower demon thing' angle to himself), they developed a friendly working relationship. But Kate eventually learned about vampires and demons, and this discovery - coupled with her father's subsequent murder by vampires - led to her downfall. Relentlessly tracking down every otherworldly-sounding lead she could, Kate was first demoted, then fired for her obsessive pursuit of an evil her co-workers mocked her for believing in. But just as Kate reached her lowest point, The Powers That Be decided to cut her an amazing break, allowing Angel to enter her apartment uninvited to save her life. |
