When Courtney found the Cosmic Converter Belt, she became the new Star-Spangled Kid mostly just to annoy her stepfather, Pat Dugan, who was the original Kid's sidekick. As a member of the JSA, though, she is surrounded by some of the first and finest heroes in the world to learn from, and over time she has matured into a genuine hero in her own right.
